Organic Flax Linen Snoods: A Pleasant Surprise

Several months ago, a woman in France contacted me and asked me if I could make a snood out of 100% organic linen for her.

After much searching on the Internet (it's not the easiest to find!), I got my hands on some (so pretty!), made her a snood with the fabric, and thought, "Well, I'll put the remaining snoods up on ETSY, but I don't exactly think these will be the hottest seller."

I have been extremely surprised.

I'm now in the process of ordering more organic linen to re-stock the ETSY shop.

I love being pleasantly surprised!

Serendipity Snood: Child-size!

Oh, this one made me laugh.

In the process of trying to get another snood made this morning, I made a mistake.

Yeah--I completely botched the whole thing.

Until I started looking at it.

What if...?

I called my four year-old over to see if what I was thinking might actually work.

And it did.

I wasn't even TRYING to do it, but we now have child-sized snoods--and only because I made a mistake!

What a great mistake!

While all the snoods I make will fit adults, teens, and children (as young as age 2!), the child-sized snoods fit babies and gives a more custom-fitted feel for young girls up to age 5.

$12.00 Black and White Gingham Snood...

On my list of things I do NOT like doing, at the top lies this one:

1.)  Take photos indoors using horrible lighting.

I'm breaking that rule tonight, however, to show you the Black and White Gingham Snood.

THAT'S how excited I am about this snood--I can't even wait until tomorrow morning when the sun is up to show you how adorable it is.

Even better--it's $12.00!

Yeah--$12.00.  I told you about finding a major fabric sale at my favorite shop.  Well, fabric on sale means lower prices on snoods for you!

And the "Charcoal Gray" linen?

I finished it up tonight as well.  And it, too, is a $12.00 snood.

I can't wait to photograph it tomorrow morning.

It's a good reason to look forward to the sunrise...

Oh--and there are only a few days left in September to redeem the 15% off coupon code in the Regina Coeli Creations ETSY shop.

Use the code      SEPTSALE15     when checking out!

$12.00 Snoods--comin' at ya!

Wow!

My new favorite fabric shop was having a great sale, and I picked up some really neat prints!

Great quality fabric on sale means inexpensive snoods in the making!  Love the Autumn Flowers print!

$12.00 snoods coming soon.

'Tis the season for winter snoods...

Prepare for velvet
Coming soon
Fa-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la!

Winter snoods 2011...coming soon in October!

Satisfied Customer!

You might remember a post where I mentioned a custom order made out of batik fabric.

First of all, I have to say THANK YOU to Nettie for her custom order she put in.  The fabric she chose seemed perfect for a free-spirit family living under the hot Arizona sun.  I had no idea what "batik" was before Nettie's order, but I can now say it's AWESOME.

Nettie was kind enough to write a blog post about how satisfied she was with the finished snoods.

She also sent photos via e-mail and said:

Here are the two daughters that are at home this evening in their snoods which they LUV!!!  I am wearing mine and will send a pic when my other daughter comes home tomorrow.  THANK YOU SO MUCH!  I am now plotting what colors I can order next!

You Rock.

Thanks, Nettie!  I'm so glad you liked the snoods, and I look foward to working with you again!

Made my day!

Remember--if you don't see a snood in the ETSY shop that suits you, please private message or e-mail me so we can set up a custom order for you!

From Under the Fabric Pile...

I'm still here!

I'm still sewing!

We started homeschooling Kindergarten, I've had several big photography jobs, and I've been churning out custom snood orders like crazy.

Now that the custom snood orders have shipped out, and I can breathe for a moment, I'm getting started back up on snoods for the ETSY shop--in really pretty fall colors.

I don't know about you, but the weather has been significantly cooler where we are, and we are NOT complaining in this house.  I love opening up windows and feeling the cool breeze throughout the house!

Pictured below is a pile of custom orders that just shipped out.

Pictured on the right are some of the fall fabrics.  Can't get enough of the crimson and cream gingham!

Stay tuned!

I'm still here...

It's been a few days, but I'm still here...still sewing.

I've got quite a few projects/snoods in the making at the moment, so I haven't really had time to post any updates.

1.)  Batik snoods--in the making.  Super cute.

2.)  Autumn fabric snoods--in the making.  Loving them.  You're seriously going to dig this gingham!

3.)  Jean skirt--I bought a pair of jeans at the thrift store (FOR FIFTY CENTS!!) and am turning them into a skirt.  This has proved to be a longer project than I THOUGHT it was going to be, but I can't wait to finish it and wear my FIFTY CENT SKIRT!

4.)  Photography--I also have a part-time photography business, and I'm trying to finish up wedding photos from a wedding I did over the 4th of July weekend.  I just booked a wedding in September, and get this:  the bride is MAKING HER OWN WEDDING DRESS...and she's modeling it after the gown Grace Kelly wore!  The groom is a Marine who will be wearing his uniform.  Could these pictures GET any better?!  I submit that they can not.

So, once I start checking some of these projects off of my to-do list, I'll be back up with more updates and photos.

Trivia:  Did you know there is/was a band called "The Snoods?"

Fascinating.

What's new...and you can still get 25% off all snoods!

Well, the autumn fabrics are rolling into the fabric stores.

I stopped by the other night and picked up a few new fabrics for fall, and I think the patterns are pretty cute, if I do say so myself.

Love that red and cream gingham!

I've now acquired quite the colorful assortment of thread so I can color-match thread to snoods for a more blended look.  Today, the spools of thread seemed to be begging for me to take a picture:

So pretty!

I also managed to pick up some lace to do more lace overlay snoods.  I love the way the color of the fabrics show through the lace.  I just can't figure out which one out of the white lace or black lace overlay snoods is my favorite!

And, finally--all snoods in the Regina Coeli Creations ETSY shop are currently 25% off!

That makes $16.00 snoods only $12.00.

$18.00 snoods are now only $13.50.

$20.00 snoods are now only $15.00!

Just use the coupon code SUMMER when checking out on ETSY!

This offer is only good until midnight (CST) Saturday, July 23rd, so go check 'em out!

A hunting we will go...

I'm off to the fabric store tonight.

On my list of things-to-get:

1.)  New bobbin cases.

2.)  Matching thread for the batik fabric custom snood order.

3.)  FALL AND WINTER fabrics!  'Tis the time of year!  A woman private messaged me on ETSY and asked for some specific colors/styles, so I'm going "hunting" tonight.  Stay tuned for the fall/winter line of snoods!

Charcoal Gray Snood with Polka Dots...

I don't know why, but this snood reminds me of something from the 1930's or 40's...and it reminds me of something a secretary would wear.

I have no idea why.

But this snood is one of my favorites!

Internet down...

The Internet has been down for two days in this house--leading to some work frustrations for my husband and not-being-able-to-post-pictures frustrations for myself.

I did a snood photo shoot yesterday, and I'm looking forward to getting the new photos up.

The batik fabric arrived!  A nice woman had four different yards of batik shipped to me to do a custom order, and it...is...PRETTY!  I can't wait to get started!

Hopefully the Internet will start cooperating better so I can post new photos!

Three New Snoods!

Fresh up on ETSY this morning, three new light-weight cotton snoods:

When I first started making snoods, I sold one made in the old design out of this fabric.  I was so happy to find this fabric again so I could make one in the improved design.  Such a pretty fabric!

My goal is to get three more done tonight before the photo shoot tomorrow!

New snoods listed on ETSY!

The newest snoods are up on the ETSY shop!

My goal is to finish a few more up tonight and do a photo shoot this Friday.  I can't wait to show you the newest fabrics!

100% organic flax linen snoods...

The organic linen arrived last week for a custom order.  The nice woman who ordered it asked that the linen be undyed and unbleached.

After searching around for a few days, I finally found some organic flax linen (undyed and unbleached).

The snood was shipped off to France, but I was able to make another organic linen snood to put up on ETSY this week.

Check out the difference between the white linen:

and the organic undyed and unbleached linen:

Love that natural color!

Lace Overlay Snoods...

Well, apart from having three needles break on me last night (brand NEW needles, I might add!), I have to say the final look of the black lace overlay snoods made me feel a little better.

The snoods with white lace have a more subtle look, in my opinion.

The black lace overlay snoods, however, are bolder--with more of a Spanish flair.

Pictured below:  Turquoise with black lace snood and Pink with black lace snood.  Very pretty!

After purchasing more needles today, I hope to finish these snoods and add them to the ETSY shop this week.

Broken Needles: Part Two

Tonight I picked up some black lace to do some overlay snoods.

I also picked up some turquoise and pink cotton fabric for these particular snoods.

Picture in your head, for a moment, a turquoise fabric with black lace overlay.

It's so pretty, I wish I had a photo to show you.

The reason I don't have a photo to show you is because I was unable to finish the turquoise/black lace snood.

Why?

Because in the course of two hours, I went through three--count them--THREE needles.

All three needles I had picked up a few hours earlier at the store.

Maybe you can imagine how high my frustration levels are at the moment.

But I've learned to walk away when things get frustrating.

And now I'll finish sewing the straps on a snood by hand.

I feel like a pioneer.

Hopefully more photos to come...soon.

When it's all said and done, I will have the turquoise/black lace snood, a pink/black lace snood, and a blue/white lace snood up on ETSY.

Stay tuned...

Batik Snoods!

Batik!

A few weeks ago, I vaguely knew anything about it.

As of today, I've got a custom order for four snoods made out of batik.  The woman who placed the order picked out four different fabrics.  Here are my two favorites:

and

These are both embroidered batiks.

Due to the amount of fabric ordered, I'll have four batik snoods up on ETSY.  I'm excited!

Breaking needles and two new snoods...

Frustration!

I was in the process of finishing up two snoods tonight when my last needle decided to break.

Oh, if only there was a way to have one delivered at 11:45 at night!

I'll (hopefully) be posting photos tomorrow of a blue poly-cotton blend snood with white lace overlay--SO pretty--and a snood made out of the 100% organic flax linen (undyed and unbleached).

I'm off to bed to dream of sewing needles...

Snoods-in-waiting!

Tonight I found some really cute cotton fabric with some neat prints.  A lot of blues, grays, and purples.  I also found a really neat antique-looking floral cotton fabric that I'm really excited about.

I spent the last several hours cutting and prepping snoods.

Twenty new snoods are currently waiting to be sewn--can't wait for another photo shoot!

Snoods in France...

The 100% organic flax linen--undyed and unbleached--has arrived!

One custom-made organic linen snood is preparing to be shipped off to France--my first international sale!

Merci beaucoup!

Out of town...

...but I'll be working on custom orders in the meantime.

I hope everyone has a great (and safe) 4th of July!

For the eco-friendly snooder...

I was contacted today and asked if I could make a snood out of a natural, unbleached, and undyed linen.

So, for the eco-friendly snood wearers--unbleached, undyed linen snoods comin' at ya soon.  Stay tuned!

Brocade Breakthrough...

Brocade is a very high-maintenance fabric.

It's slippery.
It's stubborn.
It's stretchy in its own weird way.

It's...beautiful.

I cannot WAIT to do a photo shoot with the black and silver brocade snood.

It's so pretty I don't even want to put it away for the evening.

Back to sewing.  I think I'll be burning the midnight oil again tonight.

Brocade...

You might not think "snood" when you see or hear about brocade.

But I do.

Had a chance to pick up some pretty cute fabrics today--and one of those is an absolutely exquisite brocade.

I.  am.  excited.

Photo Shoot and New Fabric...

Today I did a photo shoot of the latest snoods.

I love combining two things I very much enjoy--photography AND snoods!  Here are a few shots from today:

Check out the ESTY shop to see all the current snoods available and pictures from the photo shoot!

While doing the photo shoot at the home of a friend, another friend came over--a seamstress--and she had a box with her.  She said it was for me, and I was not expecting this kind of surprise at ALL!  Yards and yards of white linen, dupioni silk, and a floral cotton print.  I was extremely grateful and very excited!

So, the next few nights will be spent working on snoods in the new fabrics--plus I was already planning on picking up a few new fabrics tomorrow as well.

Stay tuned!

The proof is in the...snood?

The rosette I made last night!  Love that vintage-style centerpiece button.
See what the finished snood looks like here!

Cottons, polyesters, and linen--oh, my!

In other news, I plan on doing another photo shoot of the new snoods by the end of this week.  Stay tuned!

Rosettes!

I've attempted to make rosettes numerous times.

I've attempted to make rosettes many different ways.

Epic failures.

Tonight, though--tonight I made a rosette.

And it's perfect.

And I only stuck myself a total of seven times.

Only six of those actually drew blood.

Tomorrow I plan on posting the latest snood:  gray cotton with a black and white rosette and vintage-style centerpiece.

Classy!
